Hydra 2015 - chitchat

Post by Tripping »

My flights are booked, my accommodation is sorted and I have paid for the excursion.

I have never been to Greece before, this is all extremely exciting and I am looking forward to meet everyone!

Now it is just the wait!

Same here, Lynette. Very excited!

Wonder if there is any chance to start a post-meetup meetup in Athens & spend some time together in the capital city between departure from Hydra and leaving Greece?
I'm going to be there between 16th and 18th of June.

Folks?

My travel plans are as follows:

Fly into Athens on 3 June
Athens 3-6 June
Paros 6-11 June
Hydra 11-15 June
Nafplio 15-17 June
Athens 17 - 18 June, flying back to Cape Town on the 18th.

Still not sure about Nafplio - may go directly to Athens and spend the last few days in Athens, with perhaps a day trip to Nafplio.

WoW. You're making GREAT use of your time, Tripping!
When I leave Hydra, I'll be going directly to the airport, though that'll be on June 16th, so I'd need to miss out on some already-paid-for lodging on Hydra for extra time in Athens. And I'm LEAVING a bit after Noon on the day you suggest beginning, Goldin. So, I'm out of the loop, since I have to be at the airport pre-flight time. Hope you find some others to enjoy Athens with, though... and it's going to be good to meet you, regardless 8) !

Hi Tripping
Paros is great although seems busier than it really is when the ferry arrives and departs.
A trip to Naoussa was always a highlight.
I stayed there many times in the 80's and a few years ago.

Before heading to Hydra we're (Barry and I ) staying on Paros on 3rd June and then Antiparos (a fantastic island and just a short boat ride from Paros) from 4th leaving on the 10th to Piraeus then Hydra.
If you visit Antiparos (recommended) send a message, we may allow ourselves to have a drink...(not recommended)
Look after yourself and (each)others. All the best Dave ♫♫♫

I am flying out of Athens on the 18th. I am planning to stay on Hydra the whole time but I am open to spending a day or two in Athens

So do I, Anne. But as the first time goer to Greece, I'd like to spend some time in Athens, although Hydra is the main target.

The first time I went to Hydra, I was so entranced that I stayed there a month and couldn't tear myself away to go to Athens. I grew to love Athens, though, in subsequent trips, but Hydra is still the jewel

What a month to have, Anne.
My beloved cats make such a stay impossible for now.

Lizzy, it is my first trip to Greece, so I need to make the most of it, but wanted to avoid Santorini and Mykonos. I think it may be too crowded for me!

Dave, I have sent you a PM with contact details.

I agree with avoiding Mykonos. Santorini, on the other hand, despite the crowds, is incredibly beautiful. But so are most other places in Greece so it won't hurt to give it a miss.
