Re: Leonard Cohen-Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award

Just took a look at the previous award winners --very impressive line up and certainly many of my favourites. Congratulations to Leonard Cohen on this very prestigious award. Roy Acuff Awarded: 1987 Marian Anderson Awarded: 1991 Louis Armstrong Awarded: 1972 Eddy Arnold Awarded: 2005 Fred Astaire Aw...

Re: Iranian Canadian Journalist saved by L. Cohen

Wow some of the responses in this thread are so articulate and beautifully written. Thank you for putting into words what some of us can only feel. A child of the 60's, I remember only too well the voices that were raised at that time, by so many and so well against war, racism, and inhumanity in al...

Wow
as usual Dr H has the unabridged and beautifully embellished version of this story. I encourage anyone reading this to check out his site--and if anyone read my little spiteful retort that that I posted and then deleted, I am sorry I let ego take control for a few minutes.

touching news story

Bahari said he felt the walls were closing in around him while in solitary confinement, but he was comforted as he hummed the words to Leonard Cohen's song, Sisters of Mercy. He said the title came to him in a dream about two women who both looked like his sister. "And all of a sudden this universe...

Right country wrong city--it was Edmonton in which Sisters of Mercy was penned.

Re: Leonard Cohen Night 2009 Edmonton with Adam Cohen

Karen I agree with you about Adam Cohen re tower of song..I love it when he sang that Leonard would be singing to us sweetly from the Tower of song. Also want to commend you on the involvement of all the young people including Adam Gregory, who has an amazing voice. I was filled with gratitude that ...

Re: Leonard Cohen Night 2009 Edmonton with Adam Cohen

In response to Lisa and Kim Sorry I missed your winking face Lisa--I am not used to staying up so late and was writing my note in a hurry before I had to go out on Saturday. That also explains my comment about doctors KIM  Of course supporters of the arts such as yourself will surely be there ...

Re: Leonard Cohen Night 2009 Edmonton with Adam Cohen

Hey Dar Nice to see your words on here and yes I agree that the event was very well done. I loved the dance numbers with the paintings inspired by Leonard's work set as a a background. I also enjoyed the versions of the numbers that were chosen to play during the dances--particularly Jennifer Warnes...

Re: LEONARD IS FEELING FINE

I am so glad I was where I was last night and heard from his son that he was well before I heard that he had been ill. Adam's performance last night reflected I think his relief at finding out that his dad was fine. I could literally see Leonard's spirit in him.

Just wondering
Is it just a coincidence that Leonard's birthday falls on International Peace Day?

Re: Leonard Cohen Night 2009 Edmonton with Adam Cohen

yeah--this Friday looking forward to it --Adam Cohen, Ido Vanderlaan, and Adam Gregory--(don't know his work but heard him on CBC on Sunday--beautiful voice). Ido has amazing talent, but I like him singing leonard better than his own stuff. Showing my age I guess or my preferences for Leonard's work...

Re: Happy Birthday, Leonard!

Dear Leonard I think of all the times I have tuned into your rhymes And found therein the source of inspiration. The means to take another step To laugh instead of weep And to remember your wry grin in the face of desolation. I might have found a clue in an old film featuring you on which you wrote ...

Re: Special Events

Thanks for posting the info about You're our Man to be launched in September. I had somehow missed out on this although I do have tickets for the event in Edmonton--but now I will go prepared as well for the book launch. I just had a peak at a preview of Margaret Atwood's new novel arriving soon and...

Re: Leonard Cohen has grown into his Music

Well said Rodali--I have felt for some time that when Leonard says he doesn't know where the good songs come from, that I want to put my hand up and shout "I do I do". But of course I don't really since I have no idea what or who God is. But if there is a God, I believe it is the source of many of h...
