Re: Theology of Leonard Cohen

Helen, I thought of the Philistine king but ... would he be kind? Well, probably not! Yet LC, from his bed in Tinsel Town wants to take this temple down, what does the temple represent? I don't see how it can represent anything other than worship of the wrong thing or things, but exactly what those...

It works for me, and I haven't been on a train.

why is Judy Collins Canadian?
Maybe she IS Canadian... in the alternate universe where Leonard Cohen is a native speaker of French. In this universe, though, the author probably thinks that she and Joni Mitchell are the same person.

Re: Leonard's voice

It isn't shot by any means. Not like, say, Bob Dylan (and even he can sing better than one expects when his voice is rested and he's really trying). But what do you think of my theory that the rather limited range of notes he's working in on the album might be due to early-morning, unwarmed voice?

Re: nevermind?

Yes, I think there is some religious matter here, but deep and undefined. It's like a great wheel of experience turning slowly, with questions about the nature of God, or Fate, or Nature at the hub.

Leonard's voice

In album reviews, I've seen the usual stuff, all the different kindly euphemistic ways reviewers find to say, "His voice is shot, but hey, he never had much of a voice and it doesn't really matter." It occurs to me that the voice we hear on "Popular Problems" may not actually rep...

Re: THE CLEANEST SHOES IN THE WORLD

The first two songs mention shoes. Or, he might have thought it was humorous. Or, it might just be an opportunity to show off his really excellent legs.

Re: Theology of Leonard Cohen

You're right Peter, got the song wrong. Thanks for correcting that. 'Samson and New Orleans' is a dark song that makes reference to another old testament/Hebrew bible story of Samson bringing down the temple and killing more Philistines in his death than he ever did in his life. I'm not sure who th...

Re: Theology of Leonard Cohen

Hi, Has Leonard Cohen become a Christian? "Born In Chains," if taken to be a reflection of Leonard Cohen's own theological beliefs, suggests that he may have. A "wounded" God is most typical of the kind of anthropomorphising found in the Gospels. I don't know what Leonard Cohen'...

Re: Doesn't sound like LC at all.

I'd say the chances of the Labrador giving a diamond ring to a pretty woman in a restaurant are about equal to those of LC doing so. I mean, he might very well give a pretty woman a ring, but in public? In a restaurant?

Re: Doesn't sound like LC at all.

Upon further contemplation of the site, it's a humor site. I failed to notice this fact because the piece about Leonard Cohen wasn't, you know, funny. Sorry, folks.

Doesn't sound like LC at all.

This looks to me like an obvious and clumsy fabrication:
Leonard Cohen complains about Teen Choice Awards

Doesn't sound like Leonard at all. Sounds like someone who's never even met him putting words into his mouth.

Me, I think he's working alphabetically, and we can expect "Quiet Questions" next.

I can hardly wait for his "Zen" album.

Re: The birds they Tweeted at break of day...

I saw the announcement of the planned release of "Popular Problems" and had to come back, of course. Unfortunately, this means that the tweets have also returned. The Leonard-Cohen-related twitter feed was almost nothing but the new album, mostly in the form of suspiciously identical, spam...
