I took the point about the amusing commentary, so I tried a few more of them. Just listened to the King's Singers version. Biggest laugh I've had all day.

Not, I think, what LC meant by 'passing through the Eye of the Camp'.

Re: For those who love Old Ideas (positive comments only!)
Yup, I love every song on this album (with the possible exception of Anyhow, though I would love to know who it is about). Going Home seems deeper and more puzzling to me every time I hear it. Is it good or bad that he is 'going home'? Should we hear the loss of the burden and the sorrow as in some ...

Thank you, that's a really beautiful clip, especially LC and kd bowing to each other at the end.

Re: Old Ideas in comparison....
Hmmm, as a new listener I would put many of the songs on Old Ideas ahead of a number of the songs on this Top 40 list, fabulous though many of them are. (I notice that there are no songs from 'Dear Heather' on that list, not even The Letters or The Faith, both of which I would think are candidates.)...

Re: Go No More A Roving
I disliked Go No More the first time I heard it- I also thought it was pretty much a lazy rip off (of Byron's poem of course), set to muzak ... and that if you're going to reuse a folksong, you should at least make sure the tune is as good as the original. But I grew to like it over several playings...

Dear Heather 10(ish) years on
I got around to buying a copy of Dear Heather for the first time this weekend (having gotten into LC properly just late last autumn). I listened to it six times through, more or less (Morning Glory more, as it took me several playings to make any sense of it, Because of and Dear Heather less, becaus...

Re: Sharon's photo book "On Tour with Leonard Cohen"
I certainly hope he doesn't quit! Why should he? He's only 80- he's got 25 years to go to catch up with Roshi.
I reckon he has still got a lot to say that he hasn't said yet, some of it maybe in song form, some of it in other forms.

Re: 60 Versions of Leonard’s 'Hallelujah,' Ranked --Newsweek
One could argue this forever, but to me kd lang far outshines all the others- except LC himself, obviously.
But I agree that the studio track on Various Positions was not the best of his versions. Live in London is the best one I've seen so far.

Re: Favourite song from Old Ideas [POLL]
Thinking again about the difference between the ways these songs were performed on the studio album and the way they are performed in Live in Dublin, I would sum it up as 'more sad'. It's an interesting contrast with Popular Problems, which does also have some heart-rendingly sad songs, but also mor...

I love it that Popular Problems is nominated both for Best Album and Best Adult Alternative Album (alternative to what?).
That sums it all up right there.

Re: Musicians on Live in Dublin
Many thanks, everybody, for the links and the welcome. Someone mentioned the possibility of another 'tour' album to include the many songs performed on this last tour that aren't on Live in Dublin. This would be brilliant. Particularly The Night Comes On, Sisters Of Mercy, and Heart with no Companio...

Re: No New Tour in 2015
Thanks for your more exact reply, Jarkko- I have my theories as to what it means, but I won't start any unsubstantiated rumours! I actually think I would be too afraid to meet LC if the occasion ever offered. One might as well try and talk to Jane Austen, or St Augustine. You know what you would say...

Re: Roshi again
Thanks for that. I suppose it is nothing to Roshi what people who never even met him think of him, but, again as I know from the Catholic context, these things spread poison way beyond individuals, because the systematic denial and the institutional covering up end up being worse than the original o...

Re: No New Tour in 2015
I notice Jarkko also said this would be a year of 'happenings and surprises'.
I look forward to them.
***In June we are going to meet on Hydra, and in October it's time to have the Walking Weekend in Barcelona.
There will be no tour news but looking forward to something else. Jarkko

Re: Roshi again
Well, I've read the thread surrender linked to now, and it's basically shocked reaction from one week in February 2013 (which is also the week Pope Benedict resigned), with a few demurs. Then, on the thread for Roshi's death, people mostly say it's not appropriate to say anything bad about him when ...
