Re: Thank you, Amsterdam 2016.

I also echo everyone's enthusiastic praise for this wonderful event. Thank you to many people, but of course, Liesbeth, Willy & Wijbe! It makes me very proud to be a Cohen fan to see the warm, heartfelt embrace of so many friends, old and new gathering around work of this extraordinary man. I hesita...

Re: New Album announced: 'You Want It Darker'

Jerry, He recites more than sings most of the lyrics. This was a question that came up in our discussions with Patrick Leonard. Patrick speculates that Leonard is so focused on what he wants to say that he thinks learning the melodies closely would be a distraction. Again, one listening is not enoug...

Re: New Album announced: 'You Want It Darker'

Just a few comments by one of the lucky ones who were privileged to hear the album last night-I really liked it and I'm one of those who generally needs a new LC album to grow on him. I think it is quite different from his last two albums-seems to be more instrumentation. My favorite, and in discuss...

Re: Austin City Limits 1988 bootlegged

Jarkko,
That was my first Leonard Cohen recording. I had a Betamax at the time and had it transferred to a DVD prior to our first meet up on Hydra. It is a great performance-I would highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard it.

Re: Sadly, Judith Fitzgerald Has Passed Away

Thank you Marie for posting that obituary and beautiful photo of her. The obituary makes me regret that I wasn't more overtly kind to her and that I tried to keep her at arms length because of her distrusting and agressive tendencies. I grew up in a very kind and nuturing environment and the behavio...

Re: The 10 best winter songs

Thanks for posting this. I would have included Leonard's "Winter Lady" but "Famous Blue Raincoat" is excellent as well. Here is another rather obscure song by Wisconsin's Bill Camplin. Those who attended the Leonard Cohen Madison Event were very taken with Bill. I saw him several months later and he...

Re: Fall Out 1975

Very interesting-Great Find!

I did not know about the concert in Milwaukee at that time. I'm not sure if I would have been able to go as I was working my first job out of college then-however I'm certain I would have tried to find a way. I believe that Michael Lutomski attended this concert.

Re: Does LC write ALL the music?

Mark, Leonard performs on a guitar on a number of songs-he is really quite good-he used to call it his "chops"-almost like a Spanish Flamenco riff. He only plays his Technics keyboard on Tower of Song. However, I understand that he uses his keyboard now on many of his compositions. I don't know if y...

Re: Does LC write ALL the music?

Hi Mark, Welcome! Leonard has used collaborators from time to time and a little more recently. Sharon Robinson, of course, comes first to mind as she composed the music from a couple of his major songs on "I'm Your Man"-Waiting for the Miracle and Everybody Knows. She also composed all of the music ...

Re: And you climb the halls of fame...

Fowles was one of my favorite writers and I loved The Magus. Staying in Lyme Regis at his house would be a dream come true-and I intend to visit Spetses on a future trip to Greece.
