Leonard and Sonny Rollins

In Aidan Levy's new doorstop biography of Sonny Rollins, Saxophone Colossus, there is a three-page discussion of Sonny's brief collaboration with Leonard on the Night Music TV show. Well worth perusing (check the index) next time you are in the bookstore or library. My favorite tidbit: during a brea...

Re: "A new album of original Leonard Cohen songs is in the works"

A bit disappointed that there will be no concerts. We have yet to have, as far as I know, any live performance of songs from Popular Problems, You Want It Darker and, obviously, the new album. It would be wonderful if at some point a live performance could feature those albums.

Re: Review of Jewish Museum Show A Crack in Everything

After seeing the show a week ago, I am afraid that the Washington Post review is more accurate than not. While the video installations are quite enjoyable (not least the Last Tourist in Havana), the rest of the exhibition feels gimmicky and pointless. A communal humming of Hallelujah? Sitting in an ...

Perla Batalla in New York

Although I mentioned this in an earlier thread, I wanted to remind those in the New York area that Perla Batalla "In the House of Cohen" will be appearing on August 10 at the Loft at City Winery (a terrific venue). Rather alarmingly only 18 seats have been sold as of today, so there are ma...

Re: Leonard Has Passed Away

I regret that I did not come to truly study and appreciate Leonard Cohen until the commencement of the Grand Tour. But I am most grateful to have had the chance to experience two of the concerts and to re-listen, many times over, to all the music from "Suzanne" to "String Reprise/Trea...

Sounds strange to my ears. Here's a list of unreleased songs from the Grand Tour concerts: http://www.leonardcohensite.com/forum/i ... 70#msg9570 - Night Comes On - Light As A Breeze - Sisters Of Mercy - La Manic - Ain't No Cure For Love - Democracy - Choices - I've Got A Little Secret - Avalanche ...

Re: New Album: Leonard Cohen - Can't Forget on retail sites

While any new album is good news and the cover art is amusing, it is hard to imagine what yet another live album of the 2008-13 tour is going to add to Live in London, Songs from the Road, Live in Dublin and the thousands of high-quality fan videos. But I will hope that the surprises that Jarkko all...

Re: Sharon Robinson in Europe

If anyone who has seen or does see Sharon's performance also has seen or does see Barb Jungr's "Hard Rain" performance (half Leonard, half Dylan), I would be interested in your hearing your thoughts. I saw them three weeks apart and I was rather taken with Barb's swaggering renditions of s...

Re: Sharon Robinson in Europe

Responding to Athnuachan, I am quoting my previous posting on the NYC concert. I don't know whether this will be the format and setlist for the European tour but it might be helpful. I trust that with the NYC/LA/Toronto warmup Sharon's performance will be more polished on the upcoming tour. I don’t ...

Re: Upcoming NYC Events

I don’t know if it was the intimate venue or not being used to performing solo, but Sharon was remarkably nervous, misplacing her set list, stumbling on the lyrics to Boogie Street and repeating a lyric on Everybody Knows. She even said between songs at one point “wow, you guys are making me nervous...
