Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Nothing wrong with putting off You Like It Darker (you said #13, but I think you meant #14). When you get to it, it will be a bittersweet experience. My first listens were before Leonard passed away, and while it conveyed a sense of profundity and importance, they were nothing compared with listenin...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Re more music, songs, poems to come.... I am hoping that Adam, along with some of Leonard's musicians, Sharon, and Patrick Leonard, can turn some of the work that Leonard could not bring to completion into one or more CDs in the future. That would be an awesome (a word I use maybe once a year) tribu...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Now I am in a mode where I am listening to Popular Problems incessantly. I do not know why, but I hadn't listened to it in quite some time. It is rare that an album--any album--would not contain a song that I would think was noticeably inferior to the others, but that is the case here. No weak links...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Was holding this comment until we got to Popular Problems, but since that subject is about to be addressed, I will post it now: You Got Me Singing: Upon the first listen I knew this would be among my very favorite LC songs, and it is, right up there even with the very old classics like Stranger Song...

Re: Next Step: Charity projects

I can see this turning into an endless discussion as there will be many viewpoints. To keep things simple, I propose that Jarkko determines what reserve is needed for maintenance and thus identifies the surplus available for other purposes. Then Jarkko asks Adam and Lorca to decide what to use that ...

Re: Along the way... Discovering Leonard's albums

Vickie, have been waiting to hear what you thought about "Live In London." As ridiculous as this may sound now, the delay had me thinking that somehow you were disappointed, which I would never be able to understand. "Live In London" is extremely representative of what we saw in the concerts we atte...

Re: Along the way ... Discovering Leonard's Albums. continued...

Just some odds and ends: Thanks B4 for the poems by LC about ending relationships, Marianne wrote a book a few years ago about her relationship with LC which I found interesting, looking at things through her eyes. Maybe I will retrieve it from our bookshelves and post a passage or two. The whole bu...

Re: Along the way ... Discovering Leonard's Albums. continued...

Good morning, I find that I am now checking this thread out on an almost daily basis, I guess like B4 said, it's a way of healing. B4, thank you for the wealth of information you provide, especially the quotes. Never saw the LC quote with the Bob Dylan "Mr. Jones" reference. Highway 61 Revisited is ...

Re: Along the way ... Discovering Leonard's Albums. continued...

The "bonus songs" on the re-release of his first three albums always make me wonder, what other song projects are sitting in boxes somewhere because they were not quite up to Leonard's standards? I expect that eventually some of this work will surface, and I have great hopes that this will be done i...

Re: Bench updates

Jarkko,

Thanks for your efforts, which must have been considerably greater than are apparent in this thread, to see this project through. I admire your patience and hope many fans get the opportunity to see the result.

Vickie, I had to laugh when you said you just returned from a "quick 12-hour trip to Montana," I guess your geographic sphere is expanded when you live in the wild west. What made your comment stand out is, we are currently hotly debating whether a trip to see Charleston, SC is worth the grueling 11...

Re: Along the way ... Discovering Leonard's Albums. continued...

Yes, of course I have been reading this thread with interest. Finally had the opportunity to listen to Recent Songs. As always, his lyrics are impeccable and stand on their own, but my initial reaction to the music was it's all over the place. Favorite tracks are The Gypsy's Wife, followed closely b...

Re: Along the way ... Discovering Leonard's Albums. continued...

Too occupied with other activities to contribute much just now, but here's a short anecdote showing that there are a lot of fans even though we may not always notice them. We drove to Kingston, Ontario in 12/2012 to attend the concert there, having booked lodging at a small hotel/large B&B, the Hote...

Re: Along the way ... Discovering Leonard's Albums. continued...

Vickie, When you say LC did not write the lyrics for "Waiting for the Miracle," are you sure? I know this song was co-written with Sharon, but I always thought he wrote the lyrics and she wrote the music. The lyrics really seem like quintessential LC to me, maybe B4 knows the answer (it doesn't appe...

Re: Along the way ... Discovering Leonard's Albums. continued...

Now you two have done it, talking about this DNA testing! Curiosity is getting to me, maybe I will follow through with a test of my own. Another thing to add to my to-do list. Sadly I have been Cohen-free for awhile, just when I started to listen to my "new album," my stereo went on the blink, no ri...
