Re: Montreal: comments and feelings

I just returned to this topic and noticed that I had missed Anneporter's video-wonderfully done to a great song! Thank you. And I really enjoyed the accounts that Vickie and 4inthemorning linked to. They brought back many memories for Anne & I. It was a wonderful week for us in a city that we have c...

Re: Meaning of: "And no one that you hurt could ever heal"?

Cate, what a beautiful interpretation. Thank you. I think it is one of the most important songs on the album, and your comment helps ty it all together.

Re: Between Your Love and Mine - Requiem in Ireland

Thank you for clarifying that. It seemed familiar but I thought it was the reference about "leaning across the old table" in his song. Still a very worthwhile interview and I would love to see the production.

Re: Between Your Love and Mine - Requiem in Ireland

I hope that they can make a recording of this-for those who didn't have the pleasure of seeing it. Perhaps, it will be performed where those of us who admire John and love Leonard can see it. Here is a great interview with John https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhZVmyB21b0 Included is this new LC poem...

Re: Mingle With the Universe: The Worlds of Lord Byron by Eric Andersen

John, I just acquired this terrific cd-it is beyond excellent! I've been an Eric Andersen fan since my teenage years about the same time as I became a fan of Leonard. I highly recommend this recording-I've only listened to it twice (and once was in the car at too low a volume) but it is clearly an e...

Re: „Leonard Cohen – as remembered by Jennifer Warnes“

Thank you, Hartmut-that's a great article! I loved this quote from Leonard: ‘Jenny, never question where love comes from. We have no control over these things. From a stranger, a mother, a dog, or that perfect mate, it comes from wherever it comes. You were lucky, in fact – everyone hopes to find lo...

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Thank you very much Mat and I'm Your Fan for introducing the work of San Juan de la Cruz. It reminds me that Leonard referenced mystic poets such as "cloud of unknowing." And thank you to Diane, Ursula & Vicki for your continued discussion about the album. Boss, I think Doron can give you more detai...

Re: Buxton, England 1st Sept.

Anne & I sincerely wish we could join you. The Barmouth trip was one of the best of our lives, but the distance is too great. Hopefully we will see many of you in Hungary in September-plus there was this issue with Phil & Jean getting thrown out of our B & B!

Re: A Paul Muldoon poem in Memory of LC

Doron, Yes, I get the same sense. It is one of the reasons that I have not posted very much recently on the thread about the songs. Northrop Frye talks about religion only being able to be expressed in metaphor and I agree with the jist of that. After all, I don't know anyone who has truly seen wate...

Re: A Paul Muldoon poem in Memory of LC

I think the next step needs to be connecting those "Cohen" connections within this poem. I really need some help with that. Professor Bob is Robert Faggen of Claremont McKenna College who is an old friend of Leonard's from back in his Mount Baldy days. Professor Bob provided the intro to David Remni...

Re: A Paul Muldoon poem in Memory of LC

I have read the poem many times-I'm somewhat obsessed by it now-I think it is so good. I've done a little research and I can't say that I have anything succinct to say about it. I don't recognize any particular rhyming pattern. It may be in a form of blank verse, but I'm not good at recognizing thos...

Thank you, Doron-it is a brilliant poem and you have done much to help us understand its richness. I look forward to reading it many times and helping to bring out the intricacies.

Re: The Darker Album and the Songs

Vicki, thank you for bringing the quote here and pointing out how relevant it is to our discussion. Diane, wonderful analysis and like Doron I need to give it a little more thought before commenting. I do wonder if there is some element of Fundamentalism referenced by the quote "But born again is bo...
