Sounds as it's just the second "place" named after LC (Edmonton: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=36087), right?
The place in Edmonton (Cohen Corner, it was called) is permanently closed now -- I don't think it was in business for very long.

Re: The Bench

You may be onto something, Vicomte. Due to the costs and planning that were apparently involved, instead of a plain stone wall (which is a bit ironic, considering the "stonewalling" that preceded its construction...), I was actually hoping for something more like this Beethoven memorial "bench" in V...

Re: Giant mural in Montreal commemorating Leonard Cohen

Oh, Bev, I'm beginning to think that you are actually quite fond of the "grumpy" Leonard portrait, the way you seem to be taking sides with its supporters and admirers. ;-)

Re: Giant mural in Montreal commemorating Leonard Cohen

Well, Bev, the positive reactions to the "grumpy" Leonard mural by those people shown in your video link of that news story may simply prove one (or both) of two things: 1) the news story was deliberately biased in favour of the grumpy mural because it was clearly against the location of the second ...

Re: Giant mural in Montreal commemorating Leonard Cohen

Lovely photo of Leonard, Geoffrey, and indeed, that is how I picture Leonard in my mind, and how I ideally would like to see him portrayed by others. (But, the world is not an ideal place, is it?) I agree that "controversial" artwork is often (usually?) a deliberate (and rather shameless) attempt at...

Re: Giant mural in Montreal commemorating Leonard Cohen

Geoffrey: I am glad to know that I'm not the only one who thinks so (or at least, I'm not the only one to voice my sentiments out loud). Bev: You are quite the optimist, how nice! I am not so sure, however, about expecting a significant change of expression in the mural, as every aspect of his face ...

Re: Giant mural in Montreal commemorating Leonard Cohen

With regards to Cohen's expression in the mural, am I the only one who thinks that he looks rather grumpy, with that frown and furrowed brow, as if he is disapproving of something (such as a giant image of him being painted on a wall!)? Marvellous likeness, of course, but odd choice of expression. :?

Re: Giant mural in Montreal commemorating Leonard Cohen

...On the second thoughts, the blue ribbon-like thing is too big as a tie. Could it be a scarf? Hi Chengyi, Please see the attached CBC website story, which explains the image as follows: Ledo [the artist who painted it] said the mural is inspired by Cohen's later work, especially his last two albu...

Re: Along the way ... Discovering Leonard's Albums. continued...

Oh, Hi Vickie, I see that you made a new post. No, of course you said nothing wrong! I am glad that you have found Leonard, but we must all go our own ways and follow our hearts and minds, and my way is a quiet and private one, and I could not possibly express everything about Leonard that I admire ...

Re: Along the way ... Discovering Leonard's Albums. continued...

...Vickie, this points out the advantage of your approach, "studying" each album before you move on... Since it is my wont to be a voice of dissent, I actually would not have done things the way Vickie did. Leonard changed over the years, as many of us do, and thus, if I wanted to get to know an ar...

...I would love to hear what everyone's favorite album is among the later ones, beginning with "Various Positions". ... Hi Vickie, It is hard to pick a favourite, but I suppose "I'm Your Man" holds a special place, being the "first" album for me! One of things I most loved about that album was Leon...

Re: Along the way ... Discovering Leonard's Albums. continued...

Hi Vickie, I was actually thinking that Leonard's new musical "style" on Various Positions might be a bit jarring for you -- I have heard that other people also had that reaction at the time, and I know a few people even now who much prefer Leonard's earlier acoustic/folk sound to what came later. M...

Re: Hello, I'm new to this forum... (introducing yourselves)

Hmm, we've not heard from Vickie for a few days. Hope she's okay and just happily lost in Various Positions. I suppose, Vickie, this little break in the action might be a good time to relocate this discussion to the Music section (so as not to continue to clutter this one). Edit: Hi everyone: if you...

...Ha! Lisa, ... we have "known" each other for many years! So quickly do they fly by!... Indeed! ... I feel this thread is drifting off topic, so I won't comment further. ...I think this thread has been that way for a while now :) Maybe they will eventually separate it or maybe not ;-) I know that...
