Re: Farewell to Barbara Cruickshank (aka Babz)

Thank you, Dar! I remember her family mentioning before that this was in the works. Barbara was such a good writer.

Re: Farewell to Barbara Cruickshank (aka Babz)

I am so glad to hear that other people had been in touch with her. I hope I didn't misspeak about communication having decreased; I didn't have an email address for her anymore and only knew that she was on Facebook very minimally these days. I hope other people will fill in any details that I don't...

Farewell to Barbara Cruickshank (aka Babz)

Earlier today I read the sad news, posted by her family on Facebook, that Barbara Cruickshank (aka Babz and many other nicknames) has died. Any of you who were part of the Leonard Cohen newsgroup back in the Wild West days will remember her as a central and beloved figure. She was highly intelligent...

Re: Pronunciation of the word 'intimate' in 'Nevermind'?

I'm quite confused about the pronunciation of the word 'intimate' in the song 'Nevermind'. He pronounces it in a way that rhymes with 'fate'. I always thought this pronunciation was correct only for the verb 'to intimate'. For the adjective and for the noun the pronunciation should rhyme with 'met'...

Re: Did I Ever Love You - "major misstep"?!

It's very idyllic, isn't it? From c.1966, by the way.

It's hard not to see the two pieces as bookends of a sort, even though that probably wasn't the intention.

The "old table" also sounds Hydra-ish.

Re: Did I Ever Love You - "major misstep"?!

I'm curious if the "almond trees/lemon trees" lines made anyone else think of this LC poem from way back when: In almond trees lemon trees wind and sun do as they please Butterflies and laundry flutter My love her hair is blond as butter Wasps with yellow whiskers wait for food beside her ...

Re: Did I Ever Love You - "major misstep"?!

I think Jon Pareles is a dingbat. I really like this song. And I think the tempo change is meant as a little joke, relating back to "Slow."

So very sorry to hear this. She seemed like such a lovely, vivacious person. Condolences to Leonard and family and friends.

Re: SONGS AND COVER OF OLD IDEAS

An interesting thing I noticed about the cover is that the red part in the lower right hand corner (the shadow-of-the-shadow) is shaped like a heart, tipped sideways.

Re: Mosaic Main Photo Discussion

Have you really, Mary?! I think of hummingbirds as being constantly in motion, although I suppose they must stop to rest occasionally. I have a humongous flowering quince in my front yard, which has red blossoms and always attracts a few hummingbirds in the springtime. Do any of your hummingbirds we...

Re: Mosaic Main Photo Discussion

How about a hummingbird? Or a hummingbird on a wire. (Not that they usually sit on wires, but it could be kind of funny, in a nice way.)
