Re: "elaboration of a tube" - any interpretation suggestions

In Scottish patois a 'tube' is a mild insult that could replace with 'sucker' or 'idiot'. I know this adds nothing to the interpretations here but it adds a lot of self-depreciatory humour to the line, and I'll be using it a lot in conversation here with my friends who like Cohen.

Re: Vic Chesnutt dead

Sorry, I posted without reading the other replies. I'll try to send his family some money. I'd like to emphamise though something I'm sure Vic would approve of .

LEGALISE DOPE - not for dopes like me, but for the people who really need it.

Re: Vic Chesnutt dead

That's upsetting news. I saw him at the Edinburgh 'Queens Hall'. A perfect gig. At the end of the concert, after his bows, he wheeled himself back onto stage. He said "Look, I just arrived. I've got no dope. I'll be waiting at the front door in a minute. If any of you have any blow and you enjo...

This song is for the strugglers

There is a good new Edinburgh singer that some folk here may like. There is an obvious Cohen quote craftily embedded here. Not perfect lyrics but I've been looping it all day nonetheless. Maudlin is better than mawkish after all. Song For the Maudlin - Withered Hand Maybe the world would be better w...

King Creosote, fae Fife with love and hate

Just a pop song I suppose but it will never be a Christmas number 1, and I think a few of the Scottish Cohen fans would love the works of Kenny Anderson aka King Creosote aka The Fence Collective. Snakes from Single Socks - King Creosote (KC Rules OK) It's the day after she left And the sun shines l...

Re: Hallelujah to be winner's song on UK X-Factor

Okay, John Cale is also genuis, I admitted that on another thread. I forgot to compliment Jeff Buckley for a good original cover of Cales cover. Leonard rarely sang anything better than the song 'All Flowers in Time Bend Towards The Sun' by Jeff and his Scottish lover Liz Frasier of the Cocteau Twin...

Re: Hallelujah to be winner's song on UK X-Factor

@sevenation

Mmm.mmm, mmm. It was never Leonards best song/text by far, even on that LP. John Cale stuck his knife in there like any genius would., for reason. Since then? Blah.

Re: We are looking for "One-line praises" of the tour

"ANYONE lucky enough to have enjoyed one of Leonard Cohen's comeback concerts this year will have afterwards been engaged in stacking it up alongside the greatest gigs of their life."

I don't get out to concerts often so all your YouTube clips were enjoyable. Keep going to gigs and posting video for folk like me who can't.

Re: Artists similar to Leonard Cohen

I'd agree with evey artist already listed that I recognise. I'd like to add one singer/song-writer who isn't that similar in style but who is of a similar quality, Ani Difranco. She started singing in bars when she was 10, started her own record label at 17 and releases a new album every time I blin...

Re: 'Democracy is Coming to the U.S.A.' A post Election Tribute

It was good hearing the cheers it got in Glasgow on the 5th. It was the closest thing to a public celebration of the replacement of Bush with Obama I witnessed in Scotland.

Re: queen victoria

I love Queen Victoria, though it took a year. I like his faux english accent and desolate delivery but mostly I just love the distilled precision of the poetry leading up to one of the best last lines ever: ""confusing the star-dazed tourists with our incomparable sense of loss" I lik...

how a house built me

"Written in 2006 and 2007 while building a small house in a village in northern Spain, these poems are the tracks of a person who became me. Apart from the house itself, they are pretty much all that remains of him. A lot of books have been written about how to build a house; this one is about ...
